Brazil has a tremendous variety of gorgeous banknotes, both general and specialized issues. Many of the pieces are noted for their intricate designs and bright colors, and many of the specimens and proofs are in a remarkable state of preservation. Brazil itself harbors an active collector base, and its banknotes are also popular throughout the world.

The population report by PMG indicates that many of the surviving banknotes are quite rare, having populations of graded notes of three or less.
